Vegetable-Based Lanolins

Finesters 5118 and 6128: Features Overview

Finester 5118

INCI: Hydroxystearic Acid/Adipic Acid/Glycerin Crosspolymer

•Long lasting humectancy properties

•Greater water absorption than lanolin

•Similar viscosity to lanolin: 25-60 Cs

Appearance: Cream colored paste

Acid Value:  6.0 Max.

Saponification Value:   255-300

Melting Point:   40 ± 5⁰C

Absorption Base Study

PROCEDURE:

•In a tared vessel, a measured amount of test material is added

•The material is heated to above its melting point, 50-70 C typically

•A measured amount of water is introduced in stages. Each stage is approximately 25% of the weight of the test material

•While still warm, the system is hand stirred and observed. If there is no water separation, another 25% increment is added

•This is repeated until the system can take no more water. The excess free water is poured out and the vessel is weighted again

Lanolin Alternatives Water Absorption Comp Study

Weight of water absorbed = Weight of vessel after test – weight of test material % Absorption = (Weight of water absorbed/weight of test material) x100

Finester 6128

INCI: Bis Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2

•Very high level of water absorption

•Tenacious film forming

•Similar viscosity to lanolin: 25-60 Cs

Appearance: Cream colored paste

Acid Value:  6.0 Max.

Saponification Value:   224-285

Melting Point:   40 ± 5⁰C
